Court remands alleged secret cult member in Ekiti

A 36-year-old man, Abbey Olorunfemi, facing charges of belonging to a secret cult, was ordered remanded by a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso presided over the case and declined to take the defendant’s plea.

Instead, he directed that Olorunfemi be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The case was adjourned till July 15 for mention by Mr. Afunso.

Earlier in the proceedings, prosecutor Olasunkanmi Bamikole informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. in Iworoko-Ekiti.

According to Bamikole, Olorunfemi was identified as a member of the Aiye Confraternity, which violates section 41 of the Criminal Law of Ekit
