Court Fixes Date for Emefiele’s Arraignment

The Lagos division of the Federal High Court has fixed Tuesday, July 25, 2023, for the arraignment of suspended former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele is facing two counts of possession of a pump action rifle and 123 rounds of live cartridges.

The charges were filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) on July 13, 2023.

Emefiele was arrested by the DSS on June 10, 2023, after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.

He has been in the custody of the DSS since then.

The charges against Emefiele have been met with widespread condemnation from members of the public and civil society organisations.

They have accused the DSS of trumping up charges against Emefiele in order to keep him in detention.

The DSS has denied these allegations.

The arraignment of Emefiele is scheduled to take place before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
