Court dissolves four-year-old marriage over lack of love

An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, has granted the dissolution of the four-year marriage between Beshiru Mutairu and his wife, Amina, citing lack of love as the reason.

Judge Mohammed Wakili dissolved the marriage on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic law, following Mutairu’s request for divorce on these grounds.

Wakili directed Amina to observe the “Iddah,” a mandatory three-month waiting period before she can remarry.

Mutairu informed the court that he married Amina under Islamic law on March 17, 2020, and they have two children together. He explained that despite efforts from both families, ongoing marital issues remained unresolved.

He sought the dissolution of the marriage, stating that his love for her had diminished.

“She does not accord me the respect due to a husband and does not adhere to Islamic practices in her prayers,” Mutairu stated.

Amina, however, refuted all allegations made against her.
