A Shari’a Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, has dissolved the 45-year-old marriage between Alhaji Ilani and his wife, Halima Ilani, citing allegations of infidelity.
Presiding Judge Anas Khalifa confirmed the pronouncement of divorce made by the defendant after attempts to mediate and settle the matter out of court were unsuccessful.
Halima, the complainant, had approached the court seeking to end the union, claiming her husband accused her of infidelity in the presence of their children. She also revealed that he had neglected his marital duties for the past 20 years, a situation she endured for the sake of their children.
“I am now old and lack the energy for these kinds of issues. What hurts me the most is his suspicion that I have been unfaithful. I am no longer interested in this marriage,” Halima told the court.
The dissolution brings an end to a decades-long union marked by conflict and unresolved grievances.
