The Ikeja Special Offences Court has dismissed a plea by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, challenging its jurisdiction in a case involving alleged fraud of $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.
According Politics Nigeria, ruling on the matter on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Justice Rahman Oshodi rejected Emefiele’s application, affirming that the court has jurisdiction to preside over the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While striking out one of the four charges—specifically related to abuse of office—Justice Oshodi stated that the EFCC had sufficiently established the court’s territorial jurisdiction on counts eight to 26, based on the evidence presented.
The judge further noted that the proof of evidence was properly attached to the case file, allowing the case to proceed on the remaining charges.
