Court Denies Emefiele’s Request for Judge’s Removal

The Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, under Justice Rahman Oshodi, has rejected a request for his recusal from the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The defence team, led by Olalekan Ojo (SAN), had argued that previous rulings by the judge suggested possible bias and asked the court to step down.

They made this request on Monday, claiming the judge’s prior decisions indicated a partial stance.

However, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), opposed the motion, stating that the trial had been fair and impartial so far.

After considering both sides, Justice Oshodi dismissed the request, stating that the defence’s claims lacked sufficient evidence.

The judge concluded that there was no reason to withdraw from the case.
