The Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, has adjourned the corruption and bribery case involving former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, Prof. Hafsat Ganduje, and six others to January 13, 2025, to resolve outstanding preliminary objections.
At a hearing on Wednesday, the judge emphasized the importance of professional conduct in legal proceedings, urging lawyers to refrain from using inappropriate or informal language in both civil and criminal cases.
The session witnessed a confrontation between prosecution counsel Adeola Adedipe (SAN) and defence counsel M.N. Duru (SAN), representing the 3rd defendant, Abubakar Bawuro. Adedipe accused the defence of employing delaying tactics, stating the case was a criminal matter. Duru objected, calling for more decorum in the proceedings, and Sanusi Musa (SAN), representing the 5th defendant, Jibrilla Muhammad, supported Duru’s stance.
Justice Aliyu reminded all parties of their responsibility to maintain the integrity of the justice system. Following the exchange, the prosecution counsel apologized for his remarks and withdrew a counter-affidavit submitted on October 18, 2024.
The case, brought by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), involves allegations of corruption, bribery, and mismanagement of public funds against the Ganduje family and their associates, including Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, and several companies: Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
