Commissioner’s daughter, two family members die in Kano fire

Tragedy struck the family of Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, the Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, as an early morning fire on Wednesday claimed the lives of three family members.

The blaze engulfed his residence at Kofar-Mata quarters in Kano metropolis while the family was asleep.

Dr. Kofar-Mata narrowly escaped the inferno, but his daughter Maimuna, his elder sister Khadija, and a close relative, Juwairiyya, were unable to survive the disaster.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, several valuables were destroyed in the fire, though no official report has yet been issued to assess the full extent of the damage.

The State Fire Service spokesperson, Abdullahi Saminu, confirmed the incident but stated that the cause of the fire and the level of damage could not be immediately determined.

Expressing his profound grief on social media, Dr. Kofar-Mata wrote, “Unto Allah, we came and to Him we shall return.”

He mourned the loss of his loved ones, noting that funeral prayers for Maimuna, Hajiya Khadija, and Juwairiyya were conducted at 11 a.m. at Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano City.
