CNG 40% cheaper than petrol — NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has announced that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is 40% cheaper than Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Nigeria.

This statement was made by Huub Stokman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, during the commissioning of 12 new CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja.

These efforts are part of a broader initiative to reduce transportation costs in the country.

Stokman highlighted that there are plans to launch over 100 CNG sites within the next year, with 16 sites from the NNPCL Gas Marketing and NIPCO Gas joint venture.

He emphasized that CNG offers a more affordable alternative to traditional fuel products and is expected to play a significant role in Nigeria’s energy mix.

The newly opened CNG stations in Abuja are located at Airport Road, Kubwa, Gaduwa, Olusegun Obasanjo Way Zone 1, Dei-Dei, Duste-Bwari Road, and Gwagwalada. In Lagos, the stations can be found at Lateef Jakande Agidingbi, Mushin, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Mobile Road, Apapa.

These stations feature advanced technology and have a combined dispensing capacity of over six million standard cubic feet of CNG per day, capable of serving approximately fifteen thousand vehicles daily.

The stations are powered by gas-driven generators and aim to reduce carbon emissions.
