At least 11 people were killed in a series of attacks on Christmas Day in Nyiev-ya, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, on December 25, 2024.

Reports from local sources indicate that armed herders launched simultaneous attacks on the Ubutu and GSS Anwase communities, setting homes on fire and killing several residents. Among the victims was a young man, identified as the son of Daniel Jam. Another attack also occurred in the Tse Azege and Ityuluv areas of Nyiev-ya.

Residents, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, expressed growing concern over the escalating violence. “The situation in Kwande is dire. The attackers continue their onslaught, and we need immediate intervention,” one resident stated.

He reported that at least 11 people had been killed, with several others still missing. The incidents have been officially reported to the police by community leaders.

Solomon Amande, another resident, claimed that armed herders and militia were behind the attacks, further fueling concerns about the safety of the area.
