Christmas receives substantial celebration in Akure despite cash crunch

Despite the cash crunch, high rate of insecurity and unemployment in Nigeria, Christmas was heavily celebrated in AKURE, the Ondo State Capital.

Starnews Nigeria reports that Christmas was substantially celebrated and still being celebrated with heavy colouration by Christian Faithful and residents in the Capital City.

Millions of people across the world, observe Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ on December 25 of every year.

It is no more news that Christmas is being celebrated in a big form in Nigeria with a lot of merriments – eating and drinking, partying and clubbing with the sharing of gifts and exchange of money, cards, corporate items and other gift items among family, friends, colleagues and family friends.

But the big deal in this year’s Christmas in Ondo State is the heavy celebration by the residents of the Capital City despite the economic hardships and hunger in the land following the heavy spending as witnessed by Starnews Nigeria correspondents in their visits to most parts of Akure.

Christmas carnivals were observed in the various streets of the City. Eateries, bars and restaurants were filled up. There was heavy traffic by residents in the Akure Shoprite as other shopping malls of the City were filled beyond capacity.

Probably, it seems the Year 2020 have been kind to businessmen and women, the employed and the unemployed despite the World Coronavirus Pandemic but this is left at the world of the residents of Akure metropolis as a question they should answer, amid heavy shopping and other social-related activities in the newly resurfaced COVID-19 in Nigeria according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
