Renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, have lost one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died at the age of 21 months.

A statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the family by Omawumi Ogbe confirmed that the child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness. The statement described the loss as devastating for the family.

According to the statement, the family has appealed to the public and the media to respect their privacy as they mourn the young child. It noted that the period is an extremely difficult one for them and requested grace and prayers from well-wishers.

The family also made it clear that no further statements would be issued on the matter, thanking the public for understanding their need for seclusion during this time of deep grief.
