Today, as we commemorate the 60th birthday of Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, we honour not just a public servant but a compassionate leader whose kindness and unwavering commitment to humanity have touched countless lives in Ondo State and beyond.
Born on December 2, 1964, in the serene town of Dibigbini, Arogbo, in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Kennedy’s journey is a testament to resilience and dedication to serving the people.
He began his educational pursuits at local primary and secondary schools in Arogbo before advancing to the prestigious University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, in 1985. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Chemistry).
His thirst for knowledge didn’t end there; he further honed his skills by obtaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos, showcasing his commitment to effective communication and information dissemination.
What truly sets Kennedy apart is his profound kindness and empathy towards his community. He has consistently demonstrated a genuine concern for the welfare of others, whether through his impactful projects as Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Ese-Odo Local Government or his role in various community development initiatives.
The Housing Estate at Igbekebo, Health Centers in Amapere and Awodikuro, and the Youth Centre in Igbobini are just a few examples of how he has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him.
Moreover, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei has not shied away from speaking out against bad governance. His fearless criticism highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in leadership.
As a staunch advocate for a better society, he has championed the rights of the marginalized and underscored the need for good governance, urging leaders to prioritize the needs of the people they serve. His voice resonates with many who share his vision of a just and equitable society.
As an author, Kennedy has utilized his literary talents to educate and inform, addressing critical issues in Nigerian politics and social dynamics. His notable works include Military Adventurism in Nigerian Politics (2004), Arogbo Ijo: People And Events (1999), Edebo: The Portrait of An Uncommon Matriarch (co-authored in 2023), and his forthcoming autobiography, A Ropewalk (2024).
These contributions reflect his deep understanding of the socio-political landscape and his commitment to documenting and sharing knowledge.
