Nigerian singer Burna Boy is facing a lawsuit in the United States after Haitian musician Fabrice Rouzier took legal action against him over claims of copyright violation.
The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
The complaint centres on Burna Boy’s involvement in a song titled 4 Kampe II, released on March 28, 2025, alongside French-Haitian artist Joe Dwet File, whose real name is Joe Gilles.
Rouzier claimed that the track borrows elements from his 2002 song Je Vais without permission.
He accused the artists of using parts of his composition, sound recordings, and even elements of his original video.
According to the legal documents, the problem started in late 2024 when Joe Gilles released the first version of 4 Kampe. Rouzier believes that version was already built on Je Vais.
He said he contacted Gilles with a formal notice to stop using the song, and that Gilles acknowledged using it.
Despite this, the remix featuring Burna Boy was later released, which Rouzier says still contains parts of his work, including a French lyric that matches a line from Je Vais.
Rouzier is accusing both musicians of benefiting from music that does not belong to them.
He claimed their actions have caused him financial loss and damaged his professional image. He also says the continued use of his work could cause more harm.
He is asking the court to grant him compensation for damages and to cover his legal costs.
He also wants the court to stop the promotion and distribution of 4 Kampe and 4 Kampe II, and to order the removal of all versions of the songs and videos that use his material.
