Bullets Recovered as Police Engage Kidnappers in Gun Duel

No fewer than 20 bullets were recovered when operatives of the Delta State Police Command intercepted a gang of kidnappers who abducted a resident of the state at the entrance of his house, the command announced on Friday.

It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of the Oghara Police Division received information from members of Ogharake community that some kidnappers were seen in a vehicle in the community driving in a suspicious manner.

The DPO was said to have mobilized a team from the Anti Cult Unit alongside the patrol team of the division with the support of the vigilante group and community youths.

They were said to have embarked on a serious patrol of the area until late in the night when they sighted the vehicle. On getting closer to the vehicle, the kidnappers were said to have jumped out and escaped into the bush.

When the vehicle was searched, the victim was seen and rescued while 20 rounds of AK-47 rifle were recovered.

According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe and posted on the Twitter handle of the command on Friday, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was abducted at the entrance of his house in Sapele.

The statement added that he has since been reunited with his family while a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of the fleeing kidnappers.
