BREAKING: Unknown gunmen attack police checkpoint, destroy van

Unknown assailants have launched an attack on a police checkpoint situated along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway on Thursday, resulting in the destruction of a police patrol van.

The incident, it was learnt, occurred at the Ishieke Junction, located on the outskirts of Abakaliki metropolis.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the gunmen wounded one police officer and reportedly abducted another.

However, these claims could not be independently confirmed at the time of this report.

According to PUNCH, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack.

He, however, denied knowledge of the killing or abduction of any police officer saying reports from the scene were still sketchy.

He said, “An incident happened this morning, but I am still trying to put the details.

“At this point, I can’t confirm much. Let me get my facts right.
