BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Otti’s Election As Abia Governor

The Supreme Court on Friday declared Alex Otti as the duly elected governor of Abia State.

On Thursday, the apex court reserved judgment in the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Otti’s election.

Otti is a member of the Labour Party.

After the March 18, 2023 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Otti as the winner of the election after polling 175,466 votes to defeat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the PDP, who had 88,529 votes,

The Court of Appeal in Lagos had dismissed the petitions filed by Okey and the PDP alongside Ikechi Emenike of the APC.

In their petitions, they asked the court to nullify the election of Otti.

Okey’s counsel, Uche Ihediuwa, SAN, told the apex court on Wednesday that his client had 108,000 votes in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia but his votes were reduced.
