BREAKING: Nigerian hospital introduces technology that allows removal of prostrate without surgery

An Umuahia-based medical facility, Eleos Specialist Hospital has become the first hospital in Nigeria to commence Bipolar Enucleation of the prostate.

Announcing the feat on Tuesday Dr P.E Ngwu, a Consultant Urologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon, disclosed that it is a new technological advancement that allows the removal of prostates completely irrespective of the size without opening up the body of the patient.

Açcording to Dr P.E Ngwu, the older methods of achieving the same thing include Holmium and Thulium Laser enucleation.

He explained that unlike the conventional endoscopic methods for removing the prostate, with this method even the biggest of prostates will not need an open Surgery.

The Consultant asserted that this method also offers the advantage of very short hospital stay as patients go home a day or two after the procedure and also return to work much earlier.

He added that the procedure is also very safe and more affordable.
