Breaking: Former Ondo Lawmaker calls for Akeredolu’s Impeachment

A former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Honourable Tadema Yemi Festus, has called for immediate impeachment of the Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

In a press release made available to news men today, Starnews Nigeria reports that the former Chief Whip of the Ondo State House of Assembly who represented Irele State constituency from 2007-2011, called on members of the state Assembly to move a motion of impeachment against governor Akeredolu.

Hon. Tadema opined that the impeachemet notice against the state deputy governor, Hon. Lucky Ayedatiwa is politically motivated, noting that the state assembly should suspend the impeachment move and address the concerns of the good people of Ondo State which has to do with the whereabouts of the state governor.

In his words “The ODHA should jettison the idea of impeachment of the Deputy Governor, & if the law says YES, he’s guilty of those allegations levelled against him, no cause for alarm, he should be impeached. But it’s obvious the deputy governor’s impeachment is politically motivated.”

The former lawmaker expressed concern over the absence of the governor in the state since he wrote to the assembly notifying them of his return from medical vacation, for over a month.

“Ondo State people should be worried about Gov Rotimi Akeredolu who submitted his letter of resumption of duty to the Speaker of the state assembly for over a month, but till now, he hasn’t stepped on the soil of the State.”

The former Chief Whip decried the political situation in the state, saying “The state Deputy Governor is already embattled, the tenure of LG chairmen & councillors have since expired in August 2023; it looks governance in Ondo State has already been suspended indefinitely.”

He questioned the attitude of Gov Akeredolu towards governance in the state, maintaining that the governor seems incapacitated to rule and should therefore be impeached with immediate effect.

“As good citizens, we deserve to know. If the man (Akeredolu) is incapacitated, he should be impeached immediately, and the deputy should take over if absolves of the impeachment charges against him, and if not, both of them should go while the Speaker should takeover the governance of the state. We can’t continue like this in Ondo”, he said.

Speaking further, Tadema called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Ondo state, considering the incapacity of the state assembly to take decisive action on the political situation in the state.

“If the state assembly is too weak to perform its duties, I call on the federal government to declare a State of emergency in Ondo State for the sake of the good citizens of the state who are inside a ship without a sailor,” he added.
