An explosion has occurred at the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State.
The incident took place early Monday morning at the party’s state office, located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt.
It is reported that the blast was caused by a detonated dynamite, with the loud explosion heard around 1 a.m.
While the individuals responsible have not been identified as of the time of this report, the incident is believed to be related to the ongoing leadership crisis within the state.
According to sources, the dynamite, allegedly set off by suspected political thugs, caused extensive damage to the building. The explosion shattered windows, doors, and other party property, while also damaging the ceiling and interior fittings, leaving the party’s leadership and members in shock.
This development comes amidst rumors that Governor Siminialayi Fubara is planning to defect to the APP along with his supporters, following claims that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been taken over by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
A member of the party who gave his name simply as Chimene said: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3am today.
“This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits. “
