The Borno State government has announced a ban on street hawking and other unregulated activities within Maiduguri, aiming to streamline urban management.
This directive, enforced by the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board under the 2002 Urban Planning Law, includes restrictions on tricycle operations and certain trades like generator mechanics near the Post Office and Monday Market.
The measures also extend to clearing pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts of activities, prohibiting the sale of engine oil on roadside spaces, and stopping the dumping of construction materials and mixing of cement on roads, Naija News reports.
Additionally, establishing boreholes near roadways is now disallowed.
Residents and traders occupying restricted areas have been asked to vacate immediately.
The board warned of legal consequences for non-compliance, stating this initiative is aimed at ensuring a well-organized and cleaner urban environment across Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
