It was a big blow yesterday (Tuesday) as two bigwigs of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Pastor Olusegun Aiyerin and Prof Francis Igbasan, and their supporters estimated at 2,600 defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Starnews Nigeria reports that the Ondo State former Commissioner for Agriculture, Pastor Aiyerin, popularly known as a Political Bulldozer, dumped the ruling APC with 1,600 followers while his counterpart, a University Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbasan, left the APC devastated with 1,000 followers in Irele Local Government Area of the State.
Stakeholders of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation led by the South West Zonal Liaison Desk Officer, Dr Eddy Olafeso and the Ondo State PDP Chairman, Hon Fatai Adams, stormed the two local governments to receive the defectors.
Igbasan, Ayerin and their followers burnt their brooms, the logo of the ruling APC while officially declaring for the opposition PDP. They both promised to make their positive impacts in this month’s general elections by ensuring PDP’s total victory in their respective local governments.
While receiving the defectors amid solidarity songs by the enthusiastic crowd, the State Chairman of PDP in Ondo State, Hon. Adams said the two local governments are the traditional stronghold of PDP, adding with confidence that the party will be victorious in the February 25 and March 11, 2023, general elections in the country.
Chief Olafeso urged the Ikale-speaking nation to prove to the world that Okitipupa LG is the headquarters of PDP by voting massively for the party. He further said that with the coming back of Prof. Igbasan, a renowned academician and Pst Ayerin who is regarded as a political bulldozer, the team is complete and the party is good to go.
