Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, took action against civil servants on Wednesday after arriving unannounced at the state secretariat around 10:35 am.
Finding only a few workers present, he ordered the gates to be closed, preventing many civil servants from entering.
The governor was inspecting renovation work, including the installation of new lights. During his visit, he found that some senior officials and commissioners were absent.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the workers’ attitude, he addressed a crowd at the gate, warning them about the consequences of their behavior.
Alia stressed the importance of their roles, reminding them that their actions affect not only themselves but also their families and the people they serve.
Alia, who is also a priest, spoke to the workers as a moral guide, urging them to be more responsible in their duties, Punch reports.
He emphasized that the work being done was for the benefit of the people, not for personal gain.
He also mentioned that he had the authority to take action, including dismissing workers, if needed.
