Bello Orders Immediate Freeze of All Kogi state, Local Govt Accounts

Governor Yahaya Bello has ordered that all Kogi government’s state and local government accounts should be frozen with immediate effect.

The announcement, conveyed by the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, outlines a strict prohibition on any payments or imprests from the accounts.

The statement explicitly nullifies all “Standing Orders and Investment Instructions” immediately.

Idris noted that the blanket freeze applies to Kogi State and Local Government Accounts starting Thursday, November 23, 2023.

The unexpected action for such a comprehensive financial halt might be due to the winding down of the Bello-lead administration.

Bello is expected to vacate office on January 27, 2024, when the governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo, will be sworn in as the next governor of the north-central state.
