Banks, Schools, Petrol Stations In Taraba Shun Nationwide Strike

Despite the picketing of businesses by the enforcement team of organised labour, banks have refused to join the nationwide industrial action in Taraba State.

SaharaReporters can report that private schools, filling stations and other businesses in Jalingo, the state capital also shunned the call on workers to down tools.

Some labour leaders on Monday visited government establishments in the state capital to drive out workers who resumed work despite the strike.

SaharaReporters observed some labour union members in Jalingo moving around in branded buses to enforce the industrial action.

“We’re enforcing total compliance with the directive of their national body,” one of them said.

Workers who had earlier resumed at their duty posts were seen leaving the premises to return home. Those who could not leave immediately were seen hanging around the premises of their offices.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Adamawa State, there appeared to be total compliance as activities were grounded at banks, schools and other businesses.

However, students were allowed to take the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination being conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
