Derrick and Caleb, the two children abducted after their father, Dr. Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State, was killed by bandits at their home, have been freed by their captors.
According to Vanguard, sources revealed that the bandits initially demanded a N20 million ransom for the children’s release, though the exact amount paid remains unclear.
The source further disclosed that after the ransom was paid, only Caleb, the younger child, was released.
The bandits then demanded two motorcycles and a N200,000 mobile recharge card for the release of Derrick, the elder brother. Following the delivery of these items, Derrick was released on Sunday.
Associates of the late Dr. Tiri revealed to Vanguard that preparations for his burial would soon be finalized following the release of his children.
Meanwhile, new details have emerged regarding Mallam Garba Funtua, the father of Aisha, a female student kidnapped alongside Dr. Tiri’s children. It was reported that Mallam Garba personally delivered the ransom for his daughter’s release.
Tragically, the bandits took him captive after collecting the ransom and released his daughter.
They later killed him. One of Garba’s sons confirmed on Facebook that his father was killed by the bandits after paying a N2 million ransom for Aisha’s release.
He explained that the bandits demanded an additional N5 million, but they later learned that the bandits had killed their father 17 days earlier, just a day after taking him captive.
Part of the Facebook post read: “It is with total submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that I announce the death of my father, Alh. Abubakar Funtua. He was killed by the bandits that kidnapped my sister last month. Jana’iza holds 5/08/2024, at his residence in Gangaren Tasaulawa, Funtua by 9 a.m., inshaAllah. Please pray for his soul.”
