Bauchi State Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed has called on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to alleged anti-party activities.
Governor Mohammed accused Wike of aligning himself with the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and suggested that it would be more appropriate for him to officially join the APC. He described Wike’s attempts to damage his reputation as desperate and ineffective, asserting that Nigerians can see through what he termed the minister’s facade.
On Thursday, Governor Mohammed criticized Wike, labeling him a “transactional politician” whose loyalty shifts according to his personal ambitions.
In response, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, countered Mohammed’s accusations by branding him a greedy politician. Olayinka urged Mohammed to stop using the minister’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu as a pretext for his inability to provide effective leadership as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed described Wike’s recent attack as reckless and deceptive, reflecting his declining political relevance. He accused Wike of a history of betrayal, citing past leaders such as Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as victims of Wike’s alleged treachery.
The statement further criticized Wike’s political conduct, labeling him a “use-and-dump” politician who has contributed to internal crises within the PDP by orchestrating the downfall of successive party leaders, including Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.
“Let Nyesom Wike be reminded that while he exists in a delusional universe of perceived splits within the PDP, the party remains resolute and united, save for a few turncoats and quislings led by him, who are desperately trying to weaken it for the benefit of the APC, of which he has become a willing tool and favored foot soldier,” the statement read.
“Under Sen. Bala Mohammed’s dynamic and visionary leadership, the PDP Governors’ Forum and the party’s core organs, including the Board of Trustees (BOT), are diligently working to rid the party of Wike’s treachery and deceit.”
The statement emphasized that genuine PDP members are committed to retiring the APC in the 2027 elections, the very party that Wike has pledged to assist in winning re-election.
“Wike’s antics cannot overshadow Bala Mohammed’s achievements. His outburst is the desperate cry of a man whose political relevance is waning. The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance. Let Wike reflect on his actions and take the honorable step: RESIGN AND FULLY ALIGN WITH THE APC he so eagerly serves. Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty,” the statement concluded.
