…As APC lambasts opposition Parties for resorting to fetish means to cajole voters
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent Governor of Ondo State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, has been praised for his “sui generis” and modest approach to leadership, which has distinguished him among contenders in the upcoming November 16 governorship election.
This was made known by Hon. Barr. Banji Okunomo, spokesperson for the Aiyedatiwa Governorship Campaign Council, during a press briefing in Akure over the weekend.
Okunomo noted that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s balanced, moderate style has allowed him to focus on impactful socio-economic policies rather than political posturing, earning him broad support across Ondo State.
He also disclosed that in the past ten months, Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments have been met with widespread acclaim, reflecting a leader focused on meaningful progress for the state.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa has shown himself to be a leader of remarkable character,” Okunomo stated. “His commitment to the holistic development of Ondo State has gained him admiration, to the extent that opposition parties appear subdued by his wide acceptance across the state.”
Okunomo argued that the best choice for Ondo residents would be to elect a candidate aligned with the federal government, warning that bringing in an opposition candidate could hinder the state’s progress. He criticized the current disunity within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that using Ondo’s governorship election as a political consolation prize for the PDP would be detrimental.
Citing several initiatives as evidence of Aiyedatiwa’s effective leadership, Okunomo listed achievements such as the revival of the free school shuttle program, procurement of additional school buses, and significant investment in primary education infrastructure, including the commitment of 3.5 billion naira to school renovations.
He also noted increases in student bursaries from 10,000 to 20,000 naira, as well as a 550 million naira allocation to cover WAEC fees for underprivileged students.
Further, over 375 million naira has been directed toward bursaries and scholarships for Ondo State students in higher education.
Okunomo also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the state’s workforce, mentioning the recruitment of 2,000 new teachers and 1.2 billion naira in capital projects at Olusegun Agagu University of Technology.
Also, 1 billion naira has been invested in the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) to bolster the state’s health sector.
To address public safety and infrastructure needs, Okunomo praised the governor’s “solar revolution” initiative, which has brightened areas of Akure that were previously plagued by darkness. This, he said, underscores the administration’s commitment to creating a safe and vibrant Ondo State.
Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State has condemned in strong terms the attempt by the opposition partys to win cheap votes by resorting to fetish practices.
Reacting to a viral video that was released into the public space of a herbalist laying curses on voters in order to instil fear, Barr. Banji Okunomo (BBO) said it is unthinkable that in the 21st century, a political party or parties will resort to such level of crudity and barbarism in a bid to win the election.
BBO who said there is a remarkable distinction between darkness and light further noted that Ondo State people are in the realm of light.
“Light and darkness cannot meet. Those behind this obnoxious act are desperate for votes. Rather than show us their capacity in terms of what they have in stock, they have resorted to fetish means to get to power”, he said.
Okunomo stated that Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a candidate chosen by God for the people of Ondo State at this time.
“No power of darkness can subdue the power of God. The most civil way to go about this process of electioneering campaign is to demonstrate or showcase strength in what one can do differently from the status quo in order to endear the support of the people”.
“I expect to see lofty programs of actions and ability to deliver on the promises not by recursing to savage custom, barbaric, outdated, acursed, rejected, degrading, humiliating, unspeakable, redundant and denounced means to get to power”, he further stressed.
He thus enjoins the people of the state to ignore the video stressing further that politics should not degenerate to the level where people resort to fetish devices in their quest for power.
