Atiku Accuses Wike of Betrayal, Undermining PDP

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of betraying the party and collaborating with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken the PDP’s structure.

Atiku’s remarks came after Wike’s recent media appearance in Abuja, where he dismissed any attempts to form an opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike suggested that those advocating for the coalition were motivated by personal ambitions and were ignoring the internal issues within the PDP.

Through his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, Atiku responded, claiming that Wike lacked the moral standing to lecture others on integrity.

He argued that Wike’s actions were only serving to destabilize the PDP and harm its future prospects.

“Wike has no moral authority to speak on sincerity,” Atiku stated in a response to Punch.

“He turned his back on the PDP and is now actively collaborating with the APC to derail efforts to rebuild the party and offer Nigerians a better option.”

The former vice president also accused Wike of sowing political instability in Rivers State in an attempt to retain influence, even though he no longer holds the position of governor.

Atiku also criticized the administration of President Tinubu, describing the president as being absent and only communicating through WhatsApp messages. He reaffirmed that the opposition coalition Wike condemned was driven by the desire of well-meaning Nigerians to reclaim the country from the APC’s ineffective leadership.

“This is not about personal gain; it is about Nigeria’s future,” Atiku concluded. “The coalition is a movement aimed at restoring Nigeria from the damage caused by the APC, and Wike simply doesn’t understand that.”
