The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Lagos Zone, is set to hold a rally today, Tuesday, in support of five lecturers who were recently dismissed by Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo.
According to an invitation letter obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday, the union contends that the dismissals were carried out unlawfully.
The letter reads, “This is to respectfully invite you to the National Day of Solidarity Rally in support of five of our members illegally dismissed from service by the inept, inglorious and vindictive an administration at the Lagos State University, Ojo.”
The rally will commence by 10 am.
PUNCH Online reports that in 2019, the management of Lagos State University (LASU) dismissed several ASUU members, including Isaac Oyewumi, the union’s chairman; Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu, vice chairman; Dr. Tony Dansu, secretary; Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan, assistant secretary; and Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare, treasurer.
The university stated that the dismissals were due to accusations involving the unauthorized removal, retention, distribution, or publication of confidential documents.
However, previous reports indicate that the dismissed lecturers have denied these allegations.
