Army Recruitment: Friends Kill Youth, Withdraw N800,000 from His Account

A young man from Gombe State was found dead in Zaria over the weekend, with his body showing deep cuts near the busy PZ area in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Reports indicate that the deceased and his alleged killers were in Zaria with hopes of being recruited into the Nigerian Army.

However, the Army Depot’s Public Relations Officer clarified: “Please note that we also heard of the incident, where a civilian was robbed and killed around PZ. The Zaria Divisional Police is in charge of this matter. You can contact them for further inquiries. Thanks.”

An anonymous source informed journalists that the youth was allegedly “hacked to death by his colleagues, who withdrew N800,000 from his account.”

The source added, “His lifeless body had knife cuts and was found on Saturday morning around the PZ area in Sabon Gari Local Government Area. The deceased came from Gombe State. He had told his friends that his parents sent about N1 million into his account. On Friday, he even gave his ATM card and password to one of the friends to withdraw N10,000 and buy food for them. His friends are suspected to be behind the killing because they knew he had money and they have his ATM password. The corpse was deposited at a medical facility in Zaria.”

Although the young men could not be recruited into the Army, they remained in Zaria, wandering around since the recruitment was moved from Falgore forest due to snake bite incidents. Authorities have since chased them from the PZ area, forcing them to relocate to the polo ground, where they continued to be a nuisance to the neighboring community.
