The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commented on the removal of the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, emphasizing that the decision was made independently by the Assembly.
According to Politcs Nigeria, in a statement, APC spokesperson Hon. Seye Oladejo clarified that the party had no involvement in the impeachment, which led to the emergence of Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker.
“The impeachment process is strictly the responsibility of the House of Assembly. It is not a party issue but the business of the legislature, which operates as an independent arm of government,” Oladejo stated.
He added that the party respects the autonomy of the legislative arm and its decision-making process. “As an independent institution, the Assembly made a decision, and we must accept what they have put forward. Politics often involves changing interests and dynamics, which is a universal aspect of governance.”
Oladejo also reiterated the APC’s commitment to serving Lagosians by delivering good governance and meeting electoral promises, regardless of political shifts within the legislature.
Hon. Mudashiru Obasa was impeached on Monday by members of the Assembly, marking a significant change in the state’s legislative leadership.
