APC Primary: Ondo Commissioner Assaults Journalist

By Our Correspondent

In a shocking turn of events at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ondo State, Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, was involved in a physical altercation with a reporter from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Tayo Ikujuni.

The incident occurred around 11:45 am at Eji-Oba High School in Oba-Ile, the venue of Ward 9 election in Akure North Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses report that Yusuf-Ogunleye allegedly punched Ikujuni’s hand, confiscated his cell phone, and forcibly threw it away. Additionally, he reportedly ordered his political associates to seize a Samsung tablet phone belonging to the reporter.

The confrontation erupted when Ikujuni inquired about the arrival of electoral materials as vote counting was underway. In response, Yusuf-Ogunleye verbally attacked the journalist, hurling insults and ordering him to leave the premises.

He shouted:

“Who are you. You’re a useless journalist. You’re a stupid journalist. Go away from here.”

The situation escalated until party officials and security personnel intervened, rescuing Ikujuni from the Commissioner’s aggressive behavior and his accompanying supporters.

If there were pictorial or video clips as evidence for this action, Ikujuni should file a litigation against the commissioner.
