The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed recent claims by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will significantly impact APC’s performance in the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, APC Kano State Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, described Kwankwaso’s assertions as baseless and called them “mere daydreams.” Abbas urged Kwankwaso to focus on addressing his internal struggles within the NNPP rather than making “unfounded claims.”
According to Politics Nigeria, the APC labeled Kwankwaso a “political refugee,” accusing him of clinging to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in an attempt to remain relevant. The party also vowed to prevent any repeat of alleged vote manipulation that they claimed gave NNPP the appearance of influence in Kano during the 2023 general elections.
“Our supporters in Kano have no reason to worry about Kwankwaso, who has been sidelined in the NNPP due to his self-centered leadership style. He is now a wanderer in the political landscape,” Abbas said.
“He left APC because he couldn’t align with our progressive principles. His oversized ego and domineering tendencies forced him out of PDP, and now, even the NNPP no longer accommodates him,” Abbas added.
Kwankwaso had earlier claimed during an event at his residence that the NNPP had become a formidable force in Kano politics. He suggested that the APC would suffer significant setbacks in the 2027 elections.
“If the PDP could barely gather 15,000 votes in the 2023 presidential election in Kano, the APC will fare even worse in 2027. The NNPP, despite being a new party, achieved remarkable success in the last elections and will continue to grow stronger,” Kwankwaso stated.
The APC, however, dismissed these claims, asserting confidence in its dominance in Kano and describing Kwankwaso’s remarks as a desperate bid to remain relevant.
