Okunomo Applauds Aiyedatiwa’s Performance in Ondo Gubernatorial Debate

Akure, Ondo State – In a statement released to Starnews NG on Monday, Barrister Banji Okunomo, the Spokesman of the State Campaign Council for the All Progressives Congress (APC), praised the performance of Lucky Aiyedatiwa during the recent Ondo State gubernatorial debate held on Sunday and broadcast live on Channels Television.

Without claiming any bias, Okunomo asserted that Aiyedatiwa demonstrated a strong grasp of governance principles, presenting himself with composure and clarity. He contrasted Aiyedatiwa’s performance with that of his opponent, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), whom he criticized for resorting to personal attacks rather than articulating a clear vision for the people of Ondo State.

“Lucky Aiyedatiwa did well and demonstrated his knowledge about the rudiments of governance,” Okunomo stated. “In contrast, Ajayi was only attacking the governor, deviating from answering the questions posed to him. Instead of informing the people of Ondo State about what he could offer, he focused on personal attacks.”

Highlighting Aiyedatiwa’s resourcefulness, Okunomo emphasized the candidate’s ability to effectively communicate his plans and achievements during the debate. He also credited the incumbent governor for significantly easing the campaign burden by effectively showcasing the administration’s accomplishments.

Okunomo pointed to several key achievements under the current administration, including the illumination of Akure city, which he described as a testament to the governor’s commitment to the people of Ondo State within a mere 11 months in office. He noted financial commitments made by the governor, including ₦353 million allocated for WAEC fees, ₦1 billion for the University of Medical Sciences, and ₦1.2 billion for Olusegun Agagu University.

Additionally, Okunomo highlighted the recruitment of teachers and healthcare workers, renovations of primary schools, and the rehabilitation of moribund shuttle buses, supplemented by the acquisition of five new buses. He emphasized that such achievements are notable for a governor who has only been in office for 10 months, suggesting that it is challenging to match the accomplishments of an incumbent who has served a full term.

In a pointed critique of Ajayi, Okunomo remarked that the PDP candidate failed to address serious allegations regarding discrepancies in his age, as highlighted by the governor during the debate. “When the governor fired back at him for swearing to three different court affidavits to alter his age, he could not defend it,” Okunomo stated.

As the race for the Ondo State governorship heats up, Starnews NG reports that the APC remains optimistic about Aiyedatiwa’s chances, bolstered by a debate performance that they believe showcases his readiness to lead Ondo State.
