Ondo State’s Amotekun security team has arrested over 300 individuals across 15 locations in the state’s 18 local government areas over the past three months.
The arrests follow a surge in criminal activities, especially involving bandits moving into the South-West region.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of Amotekun, said that many of the suspects, apprehended mainly in border communities, are linked to crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, and housebreaking.
Amotekun has been relying on grassroots intelligence, with local informants known as “Amotekun ambassadors” gathering valuable information from towns and villages to identify and apprehend criminals.
The programme has helped track and arrest suspects, many of whom have already faced prosecution or remain in correctional facilities.
Adeleye emphasized that the security team is committed to preventing criminal activity and ensuring safety, with a focus on making the state inhospitable for criminals.
He reassured citizens that there was no need for concern, as the authorities were closely monitoring the situation.
He also acknowledged the support of the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for creating an environment conducive for the security operations.
