Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, Arrives From Canada for Traditional Rites

Oba Akeem Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, has returned to Nigeria from Canada to take part in the traditional rites required before his official installation.

He arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos at 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife.

His arrival was met with a grand welcome, as traditional drummers and dancers created a lively atmosphere.

Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, was among those who received him.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had earlier handed Oba Owoade his certificate of appointment and staff of office, officially confirming him as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.

With this, preparations for the traditional rites leading to his coronation have begun.

As part of the process, the monarch will visit important locations to perform sacred rituals.

He is expected to offer sacrifices, perform appeasements, and spend nights at designated places to complete certain rites.

After these visits, he will enter Ipebi, a period of seclusion within the palace.

This final stage involves ancestral rituals that must be completed before his formal coronation.

The Alaafin throne carries deep cultural and spiritual meaning for the Yoruba people, and every step of the process is rooted in long-standing traditions.
