Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has sent a list of 27 nominees to the state assembly for approval as commissioners and special advisers.
This follows the dissolution of the State Executive Council over three weeks ago.
The governor’s action aligns with Section 192(2) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
In a letter to the Speaker of the House, Udeme Otong, he requested the lawmakers to confirm the nominees.
Several members of the previous administration have been retained. Among them are Finance Commissioner Linus Nkan, former Information Commissioner Ini Ememobong, and Frank Archibong, who previously oversaw Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Others returning include Eno Ibanga, former Works Commissioner; Emem Bob, who handled Economic Development; and Iniobong Ekong, who was in charge of Lands.
New additions to the list include Aniekan Umanah, a former commissioner under ex-Governor Godswill Akpabio and a former House of Representatives member. Veteran sports journalist Paul Bassey, who chairs Akwa United FC, and Henry Achibong, also a former lawmaker, have been included.
Some former officials have not been reappointed. Charles Udoh, who led Culture and Tourism, Idongesit Etiebet, who managed Education, and Raphael Bassey, who handled Housing, are among those dropped. Princess Emem Ibanga has replaced Raphael Bassey. Also missing from the list are Ini Adiakpan, who was in charge of Women’s Affairs, and Monday Ukoh, who served in Sports for several years.
New nominees include Nsikak Ekong from Ikot Ekpene, Anietie Udofia from Uyo, and Ubong Essien from Nsit Ibom, among others.
