Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo has described Jimoh Ibrahim as a man who has regard for an “instrument of dialogue” following his withdrawal of a court case against the former.
Mr Aiyedatiwa, in a statement by his campaign organisation spokesperson Kayode Fasua on Tuesday, said Mr Ibrahim’s withdrawal of the suit challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary was a welcome development.
“Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has just proved that he has good regard for the instrument of dialogue to resolve resolvable disputes as against burdening the judiciary,” said Mr Aiyedatiwa.
Mr Ibrahim, the senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, had withdrawn the suit after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention. He noted that he was beckoned on to withdraw the case in court.
According to him, Mr Aiyedatiwa had made an unsuccessful truce with him after the primary by visiting his residence in Abuja and hotel rooms in Akure.
Reacting, Mr Aiyedatiwa described Mr Ibrahim’s move to resolve the disputes occasioned by the primary as a welcome development.
“His consent to the intervention of Mr President, and that of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa itself, is welcome.
“As a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Ondo South Senatorial District, he is commended for a proper rumination of his earlier decision to take his party, the APC, and Mr Governor to court, having sat over the scenario and given vent to a peaceful resolution.
“Together, we move to work together for the people of Ondo State and seek the voters’ mandate of a four-year service come November 16, this year,” he stated.
The leadership of the APC in Ondo also commended Mr Ibrahim for his initiative to discontinue the legal pursuit in court against Mr Aiyedatiwa.
The ruling party, in a press statement by Steve Otaloro, explained that the decision was a result of the tireless of its state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, who set up reconciliatory committees and held numerous meetings with all the aspirants to encourage peace and unity within the party.
“We commend Jimoh Ibrahim for his initiative in discontinuing the legal pursuit of this matter and embracing a political settlement in the party’s interest and the upcoming November 16, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
“With this matter now concluded, the APC in Ondo State can move forward united and focused on winning the upcoming governorship election. We are confident that with unity and cooperation, we can achieve success in the best interest of the party and the people of Ondo State,” the statement partly read.
