Aiyedatiwa Approves Upgrade Of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic To University

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the transformation of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.

This decision follows a review of a previous plan to convert the institution into a university focused on management science and technology.

Announcing the development, Aiyedatiwa stated that the new university would play a key role in the state’s agricultural and food security initiatives.

A committee will be formed to oversee the transition, ensuring that current students and staff are not negatively affected.

In addition to this, the governor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private investor for a N15 billion youth-focused agricultural project.

The Young Ranchers Agricultural Cluster Development Programme will involve three higher institutions, including the newly upgraded RUGIPO, providing students with hands-on farming experience.

The institutions will also receive a share of the revenue from the project.

Furthermore, the state government entered an MoU with BBA Consult to enhance its revenue generation system through a secured ICT platform.

The agreement, based on a Build, Operate, and Transfer model, aims to improve Ondo’s internally generated revenue.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and economic growth in the state.
