The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has shortened the daily curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities from 17 hours to 12 hours, starting immediately.
The new curfew will now run from 10pm to 4am.
This move follows the slow return of peace in the affected areas after violent clashes linked to land issues.
The affected towns, located in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas, had been under tight restrictions after last month’s unrest.
The recent decision to relax the curfew was announced through the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi.
According to him, security reports and community efforts show that the tension is reducing, prompting the governor to allow more freedom of movement.
Governor Adeleke acknowledged the efforts made so far by local leaders and residents in maintaining calm.
He said the new curfew hours were also aimed at ensuring that students preparing for exams like WAEC, NECO, and JAMB can move freely during the day without stress or fear.
Despite the relaxed curfew, the governor ordered that security agents remain on 24-hour patrol across the towns.
Personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps are expected to keep close watch and prevent any fresh disturbance.
Adeleke reminded residents that anyone found stirring up trouble or causing any form of violence will face legal consequences.
He called for continued support from all sides, stressing the need for peace to take root permanently.
He also told the 100-member committee set up to handle the crisis to speed up their work.
The group, made up of leaders and peace experts, was formed to help find lasting solutions to the conflict.
The governor said the state government is counting on them to bring forward meaningful ways to stop the long-standing disagreements.
He further appealed to everyone from the communities, whether living in Osun or elsewhere, to support the peace process and help end the crisis once and for all.
