The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Adamawa reported that it has recorded 215 disputes and civil cases between January and September 2024, with 189 of these cases successfully resolved.
ACC Charity Fwa, head of the NSCDC’s peace and conflict unit, made this announcement on Tuesday in Yola during an event commemorating the 2024 International Peace Day, organized by the group Search for Common Ground.
She noted that 13 cases are currently pending, nine have been referred for investigation, and four cases were withdrawn after the parties involved reached an agreement.
Fwa highlighted that the majority of the cases addressed are civil in nature, encompassing family issues, communal disputes, land-related conflicts, misunderstandings between landlords and tenants, and farmer-herder disputes, among others.
She called for enhanced synergy and collaboration with various stakeholders in peace-building efforts within the state.
Gambo Wada, project manager for Search for Common Ground in Adamawa, praised the contributions of stakeholders in maintaining peace in the region.
He encouraged residents to continue fostering relative peace in their communities as the project is set to conclude in December.
Wada also announced plans to establish a situation room in all local government areas to further promote peace throughout the state.
