The Adamawa State House of Assembly has dismissed rumours suggesting an attempt to remove the Lamido of Adamawa as chairman of the state’s traditional council.
According to the assembly, a recently passed law creating new chiefdoms does not affect the Lamido’s position.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Musa Mahmud, stated that the law preserves the Lamido’s role as head of the Adamawa State Traditional Council.
The new law introduces zonal traditional councils for the northern, central, and southern regions of the state.
It specifies that leadership of these zonal councils will rotate, but this does not extend to the state’s main traditional council.
Lawmakers urged the public to ignore false claims about the bill’s intent, attributing the misinformation to a lack of understanding of its provisions.
