One person has been confirmed dead and two others missing after a canoe mishap in Borong, a riverine community in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

It was gathered Wednesday morning that the accident happened on Tuesday.

One of the passengers, Umar Musa, said the canoe hit a piece of wood in the river, causing panic among passengers.

“Some passengers jumped into the water while others, like me, stayed in the canoe and were rescued,” Musa said.

He added that one of the three persons who jumped into the water was found dead and the two others were missing.

Another passenger, Abubakar Shuaibu, expressing concern over the incident, said many passengers wanted to jump into the water when the canoe hit the wood, except for an earlier warning.
