Kaduna State High Court has granted bail to detained activist Mahdi Shehu, who was arrested for allegedly sharing a misleading video that became viral and was deemed a threat to national security.

According to Politics Nigeria, on Thursday, January 9, Justice Murtala J. Zubair granted Shehu bail with conditions. These included a N3 million bail bond and the provision of two sureties, each with a sum equal to the bail amount. The sureties must be well-known clerics.

Additionally, the court ordered Shehu to surrender his passport, refrain from leaving the country, and report to the respondent’s office on the first working day of every month.

Prior to this ruling, Shehu had been remanded in prison custody following an order from the Chief Magistrates’ Court (CMC 1) on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna.

In his ruling, Justice Zubair explained, “After considering the submissions and reviewing the documents before me, I believe the applicant has made a valid case for bail pending his arraignment before a competent judge.” He further emphasized that there was no evidence to warrant the denial of Shehu’s bail.
