Russian Plane Engine Catches Fire in Turkey

A Russian plane made an emergency landing at Antalya airport in southern Turkey on Sunday after one of its engines caught fire.

The plane, a Sukhoi SuperJet 100-95LR, took off from Sochi, a Russian Black Sea resort, and was landing at Antalya airport when the fire broke out in its left engine.

Starnews learnt that all 87 passengers and four crew members on board the Airlines flight were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries.

Emergency units quickly responded to contain the flames and smoke.

The incident occurred amid adverse weather conditions, with the plane landing on runway 36R at 21:30 TRT. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but an investigation is likely to follow.

An official, Suat Seyitoglu, was quoted by The Moscow Times, saying “All 87 passengers and four crew members were safely evacuated,” adding that the fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries.
