Allow Ifeanyi Ubah’s Widow to Succeed Him as Senator – Ndume Begs Senate

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the Senate to support Uchenna Ubah, the widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, to take his place in representing Anambra South.

Ndume made the plea during a Senate session on Tuesday, honoring Ubah, who tragically passed away in July at the age of 52. He argued that allowing Ubah’s wife to succeed him would ensure the continuation of his “legacy and aspirations.”

The senator pointed to past instances in Nigerian politics where family members had stepped into the roles of their deceased relatives. He cited Margery Okadigbo, who succeeded her husband, the late Chuba Okadigbo, in the Senate, as well as Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, who followed in the footsteps of her husband, former governor Bola Tinubu, in the Senate.

Ndume also referenced Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, who continued the legacy of his late brother, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He further mentioned Senator Dafinone, whose father had previously served as a distinguished senator.

In his appeal, Ndume noted that Uchenna Ubah, who is around 50 years old, had been a strong pillar of support for her late husband and is well-positioned to continue his work. He urged his colleagues to honor Ifeanyi Ubah’s memory by supporting his widow’s candidacy for the Anambra South Senate seat in the upcoming election, seeing it as a fitting tribute to his legacy.
