The ongoing wave of vandalism targeting Nigeria’s power infrastructure has claimed another victim, with the transmission line linking Lokoja and Gwagwalada being pulled down.
According to a statement from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), three transmission towers along the first line were vandalized, resulting in a disruption of bulk power transmission on the route.
Additionally, two spans of aluminum conductors were stolen by the vandals.
While the line remains out of service, TCN confirmed that power supply is still being maintained through the second circuit of the double-circuit line.
Efforts are underway to source replacement aluminum conductors for the stolen sections.
TCN has once again expressed serious concern about the increasing trend of vandalism, which it warns threatens the stability and expansion of Nigeria’s power grid.
The company is urging communities in areas with transmission infrastructure to collaborate with local security forces to address this growing menace.
