Ondo State, Nigeria – As the countdown to the Ondo State governorship elections continues, Akinrinlola Olumide, Publisher of Starnews NG, has issued a clarion call to the electorate, emphasizing the critical importance of electing the right leaders amid reports of cash shortages at banks and allegations of vote buying.
In a recent statement, Olumide highlighted the frustrations of bank customers in Ondo State, who have faced dwindling cash supplies. This situation has reportedly been exacerbated by a surge in large withdrawals by politicians from major political parties, as noted by Punch Newspaper. These actions have raised concerns that funds are being hoarded to influence voters in the upcoming elections.
The primary contenders in this electoral race are the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), represented by current governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Agboola Ajayi. As competition intensifies, Olumide urged law enforcement agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Civil Defence Corps, to remain vigilant against potential vote-buying activities.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to address the situation publicly, emphasizing the necessity for strict action against those who aim to undermine the electoral process in Ondo State.
Olumide passionately appealed to voters to resist the temptation to sell their votes, warning that such actions could jeopardize the future of the state. He encouraged the electorate to make their choices based on merit rather than immediate financial gain. “Voters can accept money from politicians but should not feel obligated to fulfill their requests,” he stated, suggesting that this could send a strong message against the pervasive issue of vote buying.
Highlighting the broader implications of Nigeria’s leadership challenges, Olumide reminded voters that their choices hold substantial weight in shaping the future of the nation. “On election day, they must remember the importance of electing the right leaders,” he urged.
In a bid to combat the entrenched practice of vote buying, Olumide advised voters to accept money from politicians while ultimately casting their votes for their preferred candidates. He believes this strategy could gradually eradicate corruption from Nigeria’s electoral processes.
As Ondo State approaches its pivotal elections, Olumide’s message resonates with the need for integrity in voting. “Now is the time for Ondo to make the right choice,” he concluded, urging all voters to prioritize the long-term well-being of their state over short-term financial incentives.
