Nigerian Forces Clash with Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest, Casualties Reported

In a major confrontation, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai engaged Boko Haram fighters in a fierce gunfight within Sambisa Forest, between the Yagnare and Bone areas.

Acting on intelligence reports of insurgent activity in the dense forest region, the troops launched an early Tuesday offensive. However, they encountered an unexpected ambush, leading to intense combat as both sides exchanged heavy fire for hours.

Despite the insurgents’ surprise attack, Nigerian forces managed to overpower them, reportedly killing several fighters. The military also seized numerous weapons, including rifles believed to have been used in prior attacks.

The engagement, however, was not without losses. A member of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), who assists the military in anti-terror operations, was killed during the clash, and another sustained injuries. The injured member has since been evacuated for medical care.

Operation Hadin Kai is an ongoing mission in northeastern Nigeria aimed at eliminating Boko Haram and restoring stability. The recent clash underscores the persistent challenges faced by Nigerian forces in countering insurgent groups who use Sambisa Forest as a base.

Military officials reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling Boko Haram’s presence, pledging to increase patrols and surveillance to prevent further ambushes. This incident highlights the courage and resilience of both military personnel and civilian volunteers in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism as they work tirelessly to protect affected communities.
